Fuji X100 - a quick fondle

I was going to call this post a review. Given the interest in this camera, that might have generated lots of hits. However, it's not a review, but who cares. It's the result of handling the camera for about 5 minutes, but like with people, first impressions can be very important.

Here's what I discovered.

I picked up the camera, optical viewfinder mode, brought it quickly up to my eye, finger ready on the shutter button, and there in front of me was a beautiful, bright representation of my intended shot, with nice framelines superimposed. End of story. I don't really care about all the other stuff people have written about the interface and esoteric things. For my own use, I want a digital camera that I can use in the same way that I use a traditional rangefinder (or even SLR for that matter)

I also learned that manual focus is a bit - clunky. However I don't believe i'm bothered. I'll use autofocus, which seemed fast enough to me in the slightly dim interior of a camera store, or for street shooting I might just use zone focusing.

Did I buy it? Not yet - probably just a matter of time
